So you may be wondering why I chose TeacherMood as the name of this site. It’s because all the good names were already taken! Just kidding! I do have a plan and a purpose. I wholeheartedly believe that teachers can and do make a difference in the lives of children.
Hiam Ginott’s quote shook me to the core the first time I read it.
“I’ve come to a frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom. It’s my personal approach that creates the climate. It’s my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child’s life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or dehumanized.”
Even now, it gives me goosebumps. We are the deciding factor. We build the safe haven for a thriving community of learners. No, every day is not perfect, great, or even good. But if you’re like me, you make the most of it anyway! The good days always outnumber the bad.
In my classroom, we try to find reasons to laugh. I believe that children who are happy to be at school with you as their teacher will work harder than they ever thought they could to meet the goals you set forth for them.
That is why I named this site TeacherMood. You can also connect with me on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and TeachersPayTeachers! I look forward to sharing my thoughts and ideas with you and hearing yours in return!
